Dining experiences

Berber dinner under the stars in Merzouga

Charcoal-cooked tagine, “sand bread” and music around the fire: dinner at the desert camp in the heart of the Erg Chebbi dunes.

After the camel ride and sunset over the dunes, the camp comes alive. In the big tent or under the open sky, the team serves a Berber dinner cooked on site: soup, a tagine simmered over charcoal and, in some camps, madfouna, a stuffed flatbread baked in the hot sand.

The evening goes on around the fire with drums and Gnawa and Berber songs. Far from any light, the Sahara sky offers one of the most beautiful starry nights in Morocco.

This dinner is included in all our tours with a night in the desert, in a nomad bivouac or a luxury camp.

On the menu

  • Hot soup or harira
  • Chicken or vegetable tagine cooked over charcoal
  • Madfouna, the stuffed Berber “sand bread”
  • Seasonal fruit and desert tea
